General questions

How much experience do you have?

I have run Mad Scientist Productions since 2009 and prior to that I worked for many years for CSIRO Education, delivering science education programs to schools, and activities for the the Double Helix Science Club.

Are you really a Mad Scientist?  or are you even a scientist?

Well that depends on who you speak to.  Having perfected my maniacal laugh a long time ago, I have started to wonder myself.  As to being a scientist, well I have science qualifications in Biology, Astronomy, Food Science and Science Education and have worked in stacks of different labs over the years both commercial, education and research so I will leave that there.

Mad Scientist?  Isn’t that a bit of a stereotype that we shouldn’t be promoting when we want to encourage kids into science?

Yes it is somewhat of a stereotype that has been made over the years, but what better way to change things than to poke fun at it.

Are the activities safe?   Are you insured?

Yes and Yes.  All activities have undergone a risk assessment process and we also have public liability insurance.

Children’s Parties

Where will you travel to?

We can travel just about anywhere in South East Queensland although areas outside Brisbane may attract a small surcharge because of the cost of fuel and travel but that is generally very low.  If you want to know if this would apply, contact us and you will get an answer.

What is the maximum number of children that can attend a party?

The largest group that we cater for is 20.

Do you have set booking times for parties?

No.  We don’t have time slots that you will need to book, you can pick your time. We only do one party in a day so the presenter will not need to rush off at the end to go to another.  If we need to start a bit late (within reason) we can do that.

How much of your parties  are hands on?

Most of the time in our parties is hands on.  Unlike other science presenters out there we don’t pad our parties with magic tricks or lengthy demonstrations.  After the children get their lab coats on  and get the (brief)  introduction, they are doing stuff.
